Indian Motorcycles have proudly unveiled the all-new FTR 1200 and FTR 1200 S, planning to break new ground and provide a machine like no other. Inspired directly from Indian's championship-winning FTR750 race bike, along with the FTR1200 Custom that was introduced a year ago to show riders what a flat-track inspired street bike could look like, the new FTR 1200 builds upon that platform with real-world usability, style and performance to create an ultimate road competitor.
Nimble handling that puts riders in full control as they straddle the seat in an upright position, commanding the road with true confidence. Between your legs, a 1203cc V-Twin engine offers approximately 120 horsepower (90 kW), with an impressively flat torque curve for flexibility and strong acceleration through the gearbox. The trellis frame offers stability and agility, giving riders control through sharp corners and a stern confidence as your speed climbs on the straights.
Each decision in the making of the FTR 1200 has to led to the ultimate machine being constructed. The fuel tank has been strategically located under the seat for a lower centre of gravity and for a more centralised weight distribution. The airbox is positioned directly above the engine to optimise the airflow and maximise power. Closer to the road, the FTR 1200 models ride on newly-developed Dunlop street tyres with flat-track inspired tread that optimises your grip and style.
Rich Christoph, the Indian Motorcycle Senior Designer who was also instrumental in the design of the FTR750 and FTR1200 Custom said “This is an extremely exciting platform for us, and after investing such a significant amount of time, expertise and energy in the design process, it’s an incredible feeling to finally show the world these motorcycles,”, he went on to talk about their focus in the design of the FTR 1200 models by saying “Our primary focus was to ensure these motorcycles carried the same lines and form language as the FTR750 and 1200 Custom. We knew that’s what riders around the world fell in love with. I couldn’t be more proud to turn the FTR750 into a flat tracker for the street and help launch Indian into a new era.”
